Synopsis: ‘The visit will open up a practical platform for business matching, allowing Sabahan companies to sit down with Cambodian partners to explore mutually beneficial opportunities.’

A business delegation from the Malaysian State of Sabah is set to visit Cambodia to explore two-way trade and investment opportunities, following a proposal by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II cum State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

The proposal was raised during a courtesy visit to Masidi by an Oriental Bank (Cambodia) delegation, led by its Founder and Chairman Datuk Phan Ying Tong, on Thursday.

The delegation will be led by Datuk Dexter Lau, Non-Independent Executive Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad, representing Sabah’s private sector.

Masidi said the visit aims to facilitate structured business matching between Sabahan companies and Cambodian counterparts to identify collaboration and investment prospects that can deliver tangible benefits to both sides.

“This visit will open up a practical platform for business matching, allowing Sabahan companies to sit down directly with Cambodian partners to explore mutually beneficial opportunities,” he said.

He added that the engagement is intended to go beyond formal introductions and lead to real partnerships, investments and improved market access for businesses in both Sabah and Cambodia.

According to Masidi, Lau’s role as head of the delegation is well-suited to driving business-to-business engagement and strengthening market linkages, not only in Cambodia but potentially across other Indochina markets, including Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.

Earlier, Masidi received a courtesy call from Phan, accompanied by Oriental Bank board members Vanseka Sok and Jean Loi Jin Choo, as well as Lau.

Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the Sabah State Government and the banking sector, alongside exchanges of views on current economic developments and potential investment opportunities in the state.

Masidi expressed appreciation for the visit and voiced optimism that strategic cooperation between Sabah and regional financial and business players would continue to deepen, supporting the state’s long-term economic growth and regional connectivity.
